Rare Mothers are the Lodgepole of the Family

Grow Your Faith

Padma Gordon

As a Rare Mother your family counts on you in huge ways which means it’s important that you find ways to nourish and care for yourself. By the way, caring for yourself IS caring for your family. How can you possibly show up in all of the ways you need to if you are not tending to yourself? You can’t.

Taking time to meditate, pray and walk in nature are amazing ways to be nourished and they support you to grow your faith. In our Faith Group last week we talked about how when you stop and turn inward you receive guidance. One might even say that you open to the guidance of the light that lives within you. When you stop, listen and open wide you avail yourself to receive the grace that is already flowing. Quiet your mind. Step aside and let the miracles happen.

At times tending to yourself as a Rare Mother means that you’ll need to set a boundary. It means that you don’t pick up the phone when you are about to sit down to meditate or attend a support group even though it’s your 5-year old nephew calling or maybe your husband or partner needs something from you. The demands on Rare Mothers are many. Prioritizing your own well-being is important and will allow you to attune to your own heart. One of our group members said it like this, “When I sit down to be quiet and listen I am able to hear the prompts of my heart.”

Faith helps you to listen and to hear the wisdom of your heart, to open wider to possibilities you couldn’t imagine. Faith supports you to be courageous, stay the course and follow Love rather than succumb to fear or panic. There are so many things to be fearful of or panic about as a Rare Mother and yet, there is another choice. Have faith in yourself and in the knowledge you have about your child’s rare disease. Trust yourself to listen deeply when circumstances change. Stand in what you know and reach your hand out and trust that you are not walking alone. Love is here. Divine Love has always been here.

Please join us tomorrow, Tuesday, January 12 for our next meeting of our non-denominational Faith Group at 10am PST. Everyone is welcome. Come as you ARE. Bring your questions and a willingness to share what you know and don’t know. Gathering in a community of Rare Mothers is a precious opportunity and it’s truly supportive. I hope to see you there.

And, if you can’t join us live, please know that the meditations and readings are recorded so please listen to them when you have a bit of free time.

With blessings,

Padma
