This week our dialogue centered around vulnerability. Vulnerability has the potential to draw out our strength. And yet, when we feel vulnerable our worrying self can become activated. As a raregiver, you are familiar with vulnerability. You experience it every day. And, it is useful to remember that vulnerability is at the core of being human.

Our Rare Family Dynamics Support Group is a wonderful place for you to share your heart. This week we talked about the things that sustain you in the early stages of your Raregiver’s journey. Many shifts and changes occur when you become the primary caregiver for your Rare child. There are helpful ways to manage your life and conserve energy.
Time To Be Nice To Yourself

We kicked off the fourth quarter series of our Rare Family Dynamics Group on Tuesday. We explored what it is like to receive the nourishment of your own attention. As a raregiver, most of your attention goes out and often very little goes in. Nourishing yourself is important too. Acts of self-care and gathering in community are nourishing ways to spend some of your precious time.

This week I had the honor of facilitating the Rare Mother‘s Round Table. The group had just completed a six-week meditation journey. We reflected on which elements of the meditation were most supportive and which pieces were challenging.
The Path Of Survivorship

One person talked about how her Rare child takes almost all of her time. He fills her days with heavy lifting of a growing body that can’t move itself and is still in diapers. She spends time on hold waiting to talk to practitioners and time at doctor’s appointments. Her time is consumed with his care.

Meditation is now something anyone and everyone can have access to. Making time for a small daily practice is something that benefits every being, no matter our backgrounds or the current goings-on in our lives.
